We'll be headed to the Tennessee border with our customer favorites and a few new experiments for a fantastic day of handcrafted shopping at the first-ever Chattanooga ICE Holiday Market.

Indie Craft Experience, based in Atlanta, focuses on providing an opportunity to craft and vintage sellers, as well as educating shoppers on why they should buy handcrafted. I'm so excited they have brought their venture to Chattanooga for this holiday event!

Introducing, the Antique Oar

This paddle-inspired necklace has become a fast favorite! The organic oar shape of the pendant is hand-formed from sterling silver wire that is then oxidized, and the whole piece is adorned with a small stripe of gold filled hammered wire.

Our friend Michael over at Inspired by Charm captured this whimsy perfectly in his lovely DIY oar art. We're in love with this throwback to the warm days of summers past and cool nights on the beach!

Rose gold achieves its subtle pink hue by adding a bit of copper to yellow gold. "Filled" refers to the process of permanently bonding gold to jeweler's brass – it keeps the look and characteristics of solid gold but at a fraction of the price. It will not flake off, and it won't turn your skin green because it is nickel free and safe for sensitive skin!

We are growing again and are seeking a part time Production Assistant for our downtown Nashville studio! 

Our small jewelry studio is growing and we are seeking a reliable and creative individual to join our production team! We are looking for someone who likes working with their hands, has a love of the handmade/indie craft scene, and has a high level of enthusiasm for creating quality products for our brand. Jewelry making experience is a bonus but not essential - we are willing to teach the right person. Main duties will be wire wrapping, hammering, sanding, and closing very small jump rings. While working we often listen to podcasts and jam out to 80's cheese and 90's hip hop Pandora stations. Sound fun? Read on!

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• attention to detail is a MUST - we expect the highest level of craftsmanship in creation of our pieces!
• a quick learner with a willingness and enthusiasm for learning new techniques or just doing the same thing over and over again - it changes from week to week around here!
• a multitasker who can work at a fast pace in a fun, sometimes loud environment 
• a positive attitude - we keep the drama to a minimum
• a friendly individual with good communication skills
• flexible with regards to schedules as they fluctuate with production demand.
• previous creative handmade experience is required (ex. sewing, drawing, ceramics, etc)

Your primary role will be fabricating and finishing jewelry. Other duties include packing shipments, calling customers, and occasionally vacuuming or taking out the trash. A willingness to drive to the closest post office occasionally is a plus. 

HOURS/COMPENSATION:

Hours/Days: Part Time 4 days per week, 20 hrs per week - perfect work hours while you build your own craft business or write your next novel on the side! More hours are available from time to time, especially during the fall. 

Schedule: Tuesday-Friday, 12-5

Compensation: based on experience, beginning at $12/hour 

**Qualified applicants must be willing to start on a 2 week trial basis, after which we will determine whether or not you are a good fit for our team. Must be a legal citizen and sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Join us for a Happy Hour with Eli Mason at Atlanta Gift Market

In case you've missed it, this year marks the 10th anniversary of my little jewelry company. Freshie & Zero has come a long way since I started it on my living room couch – I now rent a studio in a historic renovated warehouse downtown Nashville. Instead of just myself (and sometimes my husband) creating the jewelry, I have four employees and an intern. Woo!

I definitely couldn't have done it without all of the support from my friends and customers over the years! So, thank you (especially if you're the blog reading type!).

It's now time for our bi-annual trek to the Atlanta Gift Market, so we're bringing the party with us to raise a glass with our fabulous retailers. I'm not only super excited to debut our larger, redesigned booth, I'm also pumped to have fellow Nashvillian Eli Mason join us for a cocktail party! He will be pouring a signature drink for us – the Gin Garden. Yum. Yum.

If you're at the Mart, visit us in building 3 on Saturday, July 16, from 4-6 pm. We even had cute cocktail stirrers and cocktail napkins printed up for this very occasion. I mean, can you even?

But seriously, there's more. Also during the cocktail hour, we'll be giving away wholesale vouchers (deals!), our limited edition screen printed tote bags (and they'll probably have a bottle of Eli Mason syrup in them), free jewelry and other fun surprises, too. You won't want to miss it!

Eli Mason has been making cocktail mixers and syrups by hand since 2012. They make everything from a rich simple syrup (if you're the do-it-yourself type) to complete mixers just waiting for the booze – like the Mint Julep and the Old Fashioned. We're big fans of all their varieties!

Pearls for June – or anytime!

Birthstones aren't a typical topic of discussion on our blog, mainly because I don't often use a lot of gemstones in my minimal pieces. I do, however, have one recurring exception: pearls! I love pearls. They’re a feminine classic and I like incorporating them into my jewelry designs as a soft contrast to the geometric hammered shapes.

In fact, pearls have been a consistent Freshie & Zero customer favorite that knows no age bracket. Gone are the notions that pearls are only for formal occasions - nowadays pearls come in all shapes and colors and can be worn with the most casual of outfits to the fanciest of wedding dresses. I've sold pearl jewelry to brides, bridesmaids, college students, moms, guys buying girlfriend gifts - their shimmering finish appeals to just about everyone.

To celebrate this fabulous June birthstone, I've gathered a few fun facts about pearls. One of these tidbits may just help you bring your team to victory at the next trivia night! High five!

• Did you know Pearls are called “The Queen of Gems"? It's a fitting description because pearls are often seen throughout history in portraits of royalty (I'm looking at you, Anne Boleyn and your fabulous B necklace). 
• Pearls are the only gemstone made by living animals - today they are predominantly "cultured" inside oysters, a process first patented by a Japanese man named Mikimoto. (That bit of knowledge actually did earn me a point in trivia once!)
• Every pearl is unique (like you!). No two are exactly alike and each one has its own imperfections. That sounds like a Pinterest meme, doesn't it?
• Tennessee's Official State Gem is the freshwater pearl. The only freshwater pearl-culturing farm in North America is in a small town in Tennessee called Camden, located a little over an hour west of Nashville. (Another fun fact - the word "gem" is misspelled "gym" more than once on the Tennessee River Pearls website.) 😂

If you're in the market for a June birthday gift, our modern pearl jewelry is a safe bet! Pearls are also the traditional gift for a 30th Wedding Anniversary, but your wife would probably be happy to receive pearls on any anniversary. Pearls also work well as a milestone birthday gift, such as sweet 16, time-to-party 21, or you're-more-like-an-adult-now 25, the list goes on! I think pearl earrings make a perfect bridesmaid gift, too.

A casual camper weekend (with our new jewelry!)

Is it spring yet?

The weather is starting to show signs of spring, and I'm so ready for it! A couple of weeks ago, the skies were dreary but the temperature warmed up just in time for our first photo shoot of 2016. I teamed up with my photographer friend, Sarah Beaty, to shoot some modeled photos of my newest jewelry pieces. I cannot wait to get her finished photos back, but in the meantime I couldn't resist sharing some of the behind-the-scenes photos I took.

We had so much fun photographing our gorgeous models Penny and Tiffany in this uber cool Airbnb Camper in East Nashville. Just take a look! It was such a unique location, pure Pinterest heaven. I mean, there was literally a bath house with a claw foot tub next to an honest-to-goodness camper. Everyone on the shoot could not stop taking photos!
