Zapplication - the not so happy adventures

Zapplication is becoming a thorn in my side. It supposedly simplifies applying to craft shows by making everyone upload a few photos in the same complicated format, and therefore the crafter is able to apply to multiple shows with one click (and one credit card). I am uncomfortable with it because I don't see my images as the jury sees them, so I don't know what the final product looks like to them. Want to know why I'm paranoid? Here's a screen shot from my Zapplication account:

Zapplication

Notice how every single status is "Not Invited" (except for the one where I was wait listed and then rejected). How is that for a batting average? Another depressing stat is that all of these rejections cost me $305. I am starting to doubt that I will ever be accepted to any show that requires you to apply through Zapp. I even redid all of my photos with a super nice new camera (Pentax K10D) and followed their photo uploading instructions to a T. I think my photos look good but I don't know for sure! The true test will be if I am accepted in the Lowertown Festival - it is a festival that I have done two years in a row and if they reject me then something is seriously wrong with either my photos or their website... Grrr.....

I will admit that a lot of the Zapp shows are pretty big time and I may just be small potatoes to them, but until I get accepted to a show through Zapp, I will continue to doubt their application techniques and I've started to apply to less and less shows through Zapplication because it seems like a waste of money. Have any of you, my fabulous blog readers, had a good or bad experience with Zapp?

Hey girl - I personally haven't had any ordeals with Zapp - but my parents who have done full time art shows for over 30 years HATE zapp...as do all their friends who are artist. Shows people have done for years....they apply on Zapp and don't get in. It is really horrible - I am sorry this has happened to you! Hope it clears up for future shows! XOXO

Wow! Thank you for your comment! It's good to know that I'm not alone in my feelings!! What sucks is that more and more shows are signing up for Zapp and that means more and more shows that are impossible to get into.

Freshie- I was next to you at Lowertown last year. I have been Zapp'od myself! I am awaiting the Lowertown response. These shows are generating a nice amount of cash with all of our rejected applications! Try the St. James show for 3rd and 4th St. sections. Deadlines are April 1st and 14th. I checked into which ones to apply to and 2 are High-End. Hope to see you at Lowertown. The Handbag and Jewelry girl- LisaAnne AKA Jane-Plain

Hey Lisa Anne! I remember you - thanks for the comment! You were a sales SUPER STAR at the show last year, and you definitely have a Lowertown following - if you don't get in then something is seriously wrong. Keep me posted!

Oh and I have applied to those St James Court sections for the past two years and gotten rejected but I would consider applying again. I just can't get enough of throwing my money at juries! :)

I totally can't believe you've been rejected from these shows...your stuff is awesome and your booth looks incredible!! I've never been to any of these shows but people who get accepted must use diamonds or something in their designs!! Ha ha...just figure it's their loss!

Glad it helped some....it is so sad that Zappo is making it so hard for everyone!!! My parents say the same thing about more and more shows are signing up....scares them to death!

There is light at the end of the tunnel after all! I was accepted into Lowertown - my first Zapp acceptance. I am still slightly skeptical, though...

I was rejected from every Zapp and JAS show I applied to. Funny my art is all hand made by me and is carried at 160 galleries and stores across the country.... Pro photos too, cost me $800.... I'm really angry.
